AKRON: The first set of triplets were born to snow leopard Shanti at the Akron Zoo earlier this month.
It’s the third litter, but first set of three cubs. The previous two litters, in 2012 and 2014, each had two cubs. Snow leopards are an endangered species. There are 153 in the United States and about 4,000 in the wild.
The cubs were born on March 5 and weighed a pound. They currently weigh 4 pounds each. A naming contest will be announced in a few weeks.
The cubs will remain indoors until they go into the snow leopard exhibit at the end of May or early June.
