A 23-year-old woman was walking to class at the University of Akron about 9 a.m. Monday in the 400 block of Sumner Street when she was approached by a man who had his hand in his pocket and said he had a gun.
The man told the woman to walk in the opposite direction and followed behind her. He told her to give him her bookbag.
The woman tried to get other people’s attention as she walked, but had no luck until her roommate walked up to her, according to the Akron Police Department’s daily report.
The roommate pulled out her cell phone and the male handed back the woman’s bookbag. While the roommate was on the phone with police, the suspect walked back up to the women and said he would talk to police.
Officers arrested the man, Orlando C. Ransom, 22, of Ravenna, and charged him with kidnapping and robbery. He was booked into the Summit County Jail.
