An Akron man has been charged with first-degree murder for a deadly shooting in Ravenna last weekend.
Javon M. Thomas, 26, is being held on $1 million cash bond at the Portage County Jail.
Two people were shot to death and a third was wounded following an argument at 4:35 a.m. Saturday at an apartment building at 731 Woodgate Blvd.
Police Capt. David Rarrick declined to discuss the reason for the argument.
Austin J. Tiller, 20, of Stow, and Brian K. Brack, 24, of Canton, were killed. Destany Dixon, 21, of Ravenna, suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
Portage County court records show that Thomas is charged with killing Brack. Additional charges are pending a review by prosecutors.
The investigation is continuing and police are still interviewing witnesses, Rarrick added.
Thomas is accused of using handguns in the shooting. Court records show that he was convicted of carrying a concealed weapon in 2011 in Summit County. He received a 180-day suspended jail sentence and was placed on probation for a year.
The deadly shooting is the second in the last few months in the Ravenna community. David Darnell Calhoun Jr., 25, of Akron, has been charged with killing two people, including a pregnant woman, Nov. 30 at a Ravenna Township home. He recently was captured after a manhunt.
“We have a community that’s pretty shook up,” Rarrick said.
