Warm temperatures with rain predicted for Christmas in Akron

It looks like the only white Christmas in Akron this year will be the one in your dreams.

The National Weather Service expects unseasonably warm weather Sunday for Santa’s arrival in Northeast Ohio.

Temperatures are expected to top out around 44 degrees on Christmas Day in Akron — that’s about 10 degrees above normal.

And there will be some precipitation, but it will fall as rain. Showers are expected on the Big Day.

The National Weather Service says Akron will be on the warm side of the same low pressure system that is expected to bring heavy snow and high winds to states farther west, affecting cities including Denver, Minneapolis, Chicago and Kansas City, Mo.

Temperatures are expected to slowly rise over the coming days with sunny skies and a high in the mid-30s on Friday.

There’s a chance of snow flurries in the morning on Christmas Eve and rain showers in the afternoon.

Temperatures are predicted to reach the mid-50s with some rain the day after Christmas.
