Make ‘Room’ on calendar
Akron’s Nightlight has added special showings of Room at 8 p.m. Sunday. Brie Larson won the best actress Oscar for her performance as a woman who, after being kidnapped and raped, has lived for years in a small room where she gave birth to a son who is now 5. Beacon Journal pop culture writer Rich Heldenfels points out that it is actually set in Akron — though shot in Canada. Asked why, director Lenny Abrahamson said via Twitter that Akron was a good example of “a very typical U.S. city.” See www.nightlightcinema.com for tickets.
