AKRON: The Salvation Army of Summit County is recruiting volunteer bell ringers for its 2016 Red Kettle Campaign.
“The Salvation Army’s Red Kettles are a familiar part of the traditional holiday scene each November and December, so when we hear the bells we know Christmas is upon us and it’s time to help ring,” Mary Ann Jackson, honorary chair of the campaign, said in a prepared statement.
The group said it needs to raise $350,000 to continue providing food, clothing and emergency assistance to needy people in the community.
The campaign begins Nov. 12 and runs through Dec. 24. The Salvation Army said it needs 9,000 volunteers.
The kettles are staffed from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday at retail sites around Summit County. Many sites are indoors and out of the elements.
