Honor our fallen war heroes

Pay your Memorial Day respects at a noontime ceremony at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, 10175 Rawiga Road, Rittman, with a rifle salute, wreath-laying and music by the 122nd Army Band. Keynote speaker is Capt. Susan Taylor, U.S. Army Nurse Corps. It will include a commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War, with lapel pinning of Vietnam veterans. Spectators should bring lawn chairs.

Learn more about cicadas

Have the 17-year cicadas arrived in your yard yet? Learn more about them with activities and a visit with a naturalist from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Seiberling Nature Realm, 1828 Smith Road, Akron. For more information, call 330-865-8065 or go to www.summitmetroparks.org.

Go hiking at Brandywine Falls

Check out one of the area’s prettiest sights with a 1 p.m. ranger-led hike at Brandywine Falls, off Brandywine Road in Sagamore Hills Township. 330-657-2752.

Enjoy KidsDay at the zoo

Cleveland Metroparks Zoo hosts KidsDay from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., featuring enrichment demonstrations with the lions, cheetahs, rhinos, elephants, grizzly bears and sea lions, as well as costumed characters, crafts, interactive gaming zone, DJ Dance Party and Touch-A-Truck. The zoo is at 3900 Wildlife Way, Cleveland. Admission: $14.25, seniors $12.25 and children (ages 2-11) $10.25. www.clemetzoo.com.

Take a tour of Anna Dean Farm

The 26th Annual Anna Dean Farm Walking Tour runs from 1:30-4 p.m. at the Piggery, 248 Robinson Ave., Barberton.
